Jess Wainer’s work combines sculpture, painting and drawing to captivate and challenge viewers. She uses the contours and expressions of the human face to confront viewers with deeply personal emotions and conflicted human experiences. Jess has been working with clay since the age of 10 when her parents set up a small ceramics studio in their home in Ohio. In the following 8 years Jess’s artist expression developed into her primary passion, which lead her to the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for her undergraduate work, where she studied glassblowing, sculpture, art history, and new media installation.

Jess Wainer designs and fabricates custom lighting for interior designers as well as residential and commercial clients. Each illuminated glass object is created through a hands-on, personalized process that is focused on identifying the client’s needs and realizing a final installation that is sensitive to them. When Jess partners with interior design firms she works in a range of capacities from project management to custom fabrication of glass parts made to the designer’s specifications. Jess's work with designers includes, but is not limited to pendants, floor lamps, wall sconces, and chandeliers.
Clients that Jess works directly with have the opportunity to get to know Jess’s imaginative personality while benefiting from the diligence with which she approaches her studio practice. Jess creates finely crafted fixtures with an organic, yet contemporary aesthetic. Her unique creative process is a compelling way to make a new or newly renovated home feel special and distinctive.
